TRANScend: A Retreat for Trans and Genderqueer Folks
Friday October 18th to Sunday October 20th 2019
Beautiful friends, TRANScend invites you to our third year of creating majick together as trans and genderqueer folks.
TRANScend is an annual retreat designed for and by transgender and genderqueer folks. We build community with one another by deepening our ability to self-organize, create paths of resilience, redefine resistance, heal, socialize and further develop our social justice movements. Through workshops and rituals we empower each other by centering the needs of our community, which includes, focusing on mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional health as pivotal aspects of strong leadership. We know that both self and community care are critical to our wellness; so there will be plenty of time to relax, rejuvenate, laugh and dance under the stars.
This year’s theme, ‘Becoming a Beloved Community’, feels appropriate in light of the violence and murder disproportionately effecting the black trans women in our community. This must stop! TRANScend has decided that our approach to this violence includes: centering black trans women’s leadership, building national solidarity and collectively raising awareness. The first place this must happen is within trusted and beloved community.
We know that when trans and genderqueer folks come together we create majick, we shift narratives, and we make visible changes that have the ability to overthrow antiquated cis-tems. In this current administration it is important for us to find common purpose while appreciating our differences; it is in so doing that we can truly move forward in our quest for intersectional liberation.
We have finalized our presenters and healers for TRANScend 2019.
Check out the workshops and presenter bios here:
We will be sharing our healers publicly in the coming days, check back soon!
In keeping with this years theme, ‘Becoming a Beloved Community’ and to build national solidarity TRANScend is excited to announce, “The Muhlaysia Booker Travel Fund”. The travel fund will directly support black trans women from the south, to aid them in attending the retreat, with air travel, transportation to and from, and a complimentary ticket to the retreat.
More details to come!
We would also like to thank Double Scorpio for their generous donation and continued allyship with TRANScend, specifically the travel fund. If you would like to donate to this fund directly please email us at email@example.com
We raise funds year-round for our scholarship program and presenter stipends, please consider donating and sharing to your networks! All funds directly supports TRANScend.

Want to know more about the retreat? Check out the full listing of workshops and activities from last year!
Registration for TRANScend includes: food, lodging, all activities, and access to the Saratoga Springs’ retreat center, including the hot tub and pool. We have cabin spaces available for approximately 100 folks and plenty of camping spaces (with extra tents for those who need them). We cook delicious, nutritious meals all weekend and make sure to provide options which honor a wide variety of dietary needs.
TRANScend works very hard to make this event more financially accessible and understands the disparities inherent within our highly racialized society. Therefore our scholarship program provides 70% of its funding to People of Color.
Scholarship applications are now available! It’s just a quick 5-minute application here ! DEADLINE is September 31st at MIDNIGHT.
We have also secured a shuttle bus through our friends at FLUX to help with transport to and from the SF Bay area. This will be available as a free option to the first 40 people who need this service, sign up below, once you have been registered!
We also have a carpool page setup for people to share rides on and for those whose needs aren’t met by the shuttle bus (link below). In other words, we’re making sure it’s mighty easy to get here for this important program.
TRANScend is organized by a talented team of trans and genderqueer leaders that represent the vast spectrum of our community. Please feel free to get in touch with them if you have questions or would like to be more involved. Look for bios and other details by late August.
No pets are allowed at Saratoga Spring’s events, only ADA defined service animals. If you plan to bring your service animal, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Please make other arrangements for the care of your pets while you are here.
